Resolution broken...with only 4 short days to go...

A resolution I made way way back at the beginning of the year was to try to not buy so many shoes.

In fact, I made a deal with myself that I wouldn't buy any shoes what-so-ever for the entire month of January...

But Steve Madden had other plans for me... he would send me e-mails about the shoes on clearance... the free shipping on $100 or more orders... an additional 30% off the lowest clearance price...



I just couldn't help myself...

They were 30% off the lowest clearance price...they were in my size...they are red with a cute button and totally rad wood block heel... they look like "grown up" shoes... they were calling out to me in my dreams... buy me... buy me...did I mention the cute button and totally rad wood block heel...

I'm such an addict...

Me and my big ideas...

So, it was time to buy new couches for the living room.
We still had the same set-up from the old house, scratched up couch and all.
My original plan was to re-upholster the existing couch and then upholster the one-armed couch we have in the garage to match it...
...but when I really thought about it... do I really want to spend time, money, effort, labor, sweat and probably tears on painstakingly re-doing old furniture just so my cats can work their claw magic... or do I just want to spend money...

Thanks to Ikea, the "just spend money" idea was my final decision...
So, now, I have two brand spankin' new couches... un-scratched... for now.
But of course, none of my existing other furniture matches them... had to go order coffee and end tables too... need a new light fixture there in the corner... need some new curtains so the room isn't so drab...

I am pleased that my Amy Butler lotus fabric (thanks for the idea MB) matches so well!
I'm in the process of making pillows out of it as we speak!
More updates soon on the "complete living room makeover" that was just supposed to be "we need more seating"...

Ikea... I Think I Love You...

Ikea opened its doors last November up in Round Rock... finally... an Ikea closer than Houston!
We stayed away during the holiday season... but yesterday... it was ON!!!

Yaz and I checked out the 360 square foot living space...

Chairs! Chairs! Chairs!

If I were still 8 years old, I would need to have all of these...

Big, crazy, watery faucet thingy??? Yes, please...

Good thing we all piled into the truck... so all of our stuff would fit in the back!

So, thanks to all the amazing stuff we purchased yesterday, my sewing room has almost completed it's transformation...

All I have left to do is do something cool with this fabric that I bought at Mood in NYC this past summer...

I'm thinking some panels of it on the one empty wall might just do the trick...

2nd Wedding Anniversary

My husband and I just celebrated our 2 year wedding anniversary this past December 18th.

Since our anniversary is so close to Christmas, we like to use the traditional wedding anniversary gift guide... first year is paper, second is cotton, I think next year is leather... (that should be interesting)...

What to get that's made of cotton for your spouse?

Well, my husband loves monkeys... loves 'em... so...


I commissioned a sock monkey master on Etsy.com to make a pair of monkeys that resembled us on our wedding day!

I was so happy that they matched the bedroom!

One of my favorite things in all the world - new slippers!
Hand made, cotton blend, cute flower buttons... good stuff...

He also got me a yard of super cute fabric...



I've already made a skirt out of it to wear on New Year's Eve...
and have enough left over to incorporate it into a stuffed creature that I'm working on... more on that later...

Slippers are good

... just got these new slippers this past weekend and I think I'm in love.

I'm a bit of a slipper junkie - always need a good new pair and am quick to replace them when a cat rips one up or I spill something on them.

First thing I do when I get home is change out of whatever shoes I have on into these new beauties.

In other news...


...made this curtain for the sewing room and I'm not very fond of it.

I mean, I like the design idea that I was going for, it's just that it doesn't fit the window exactly - partly because I can't seem to cut a straight line, but also becuase the fabric is stretchy... cats seem to be ok with it, although I do wish I had made it a roman shade.

Oh well, IKEA opens in 5 days... they'll be able to help me out of this predicament...
