Personalize that wedding present!

Some dear friends of ours are getting married in a couple weeks and I wanted to give them something that they needed, but most definitely with a personal touch. 

As a person who has gone through the process of getting married and setting up a registry, I wanted to make sure that my gift matched the items on the registry - just so my friends wouldn't end up with some screwball crazy present from their 'crafty' friend that 'makes' things... yuck...

They have all sorts of goodies on their list - plates, napkin holders, placemats, table cloth, but no cloth napkins.  Perfect!  Napkins it is.  I took color cues from the other registry items and also quizzed the bride about her wedding colors.

Thankfully, these two both happen to have favorite animals - a bunny and a polar bear to be exact, so, that's where I started with my design inspiration.

I decided to make a set of eight, but didn't want them all to be the same, so, I took some inspiration from the wedding invite and embroidered 4 napkins with their initials - in the invite font...

So, there you have it.  Personalized wedding prezzie that still matches the registry! 

I sure hope they enjoy using these as much as I enjoyed creating them!

Out of the Loop...

 

I know I'm probably the last person in the whole world to hear about this band, but I am so in love with them, I just had to share with you today!

Sleigh Bells.  They rule.  Go forth and listen to their album 'Treats'.  You will be pleased.

Pretty much everytime I find a new band that I like, they almost always remind me of an old band that I like and I end up just wanting to listen to the old band. 

Tis the case with Sleigh Bells too, though their record doesn't sound much like the records it reminds me of, but rather a general feeling of awesomeness that they all seem to have in common.

The first band that came up in my memory bank was I Am the World Trade Center.

They were on Kindercore back in the early two-thousands...  I think they have three releases, but my favorite is 'Out of the Loop'.

I literally bought Beats and Breaks From the Flower Patch because the cover is so awesome.  It quickly became one of my favorite records ever, so, guess you can judge a book by it's cover sometimes! 

...and there you have it - new music listening to inspire old music listening!  Good times...

The Candycorns

When you buy your groceries at Randalls and use your Remarkable Card, at the end of the transaction, the cashier always says "Thank you very much, Mrs. Insert-Your-Last-Name-Here, you saved $3.49 today!"

Our last name is Corcoran.  Pronounced 'Cochran'... I know, I know, we spell it wrong.  We didn't make the rules, however.  Grampy Corcoran did.  It's his name, we can't argue.

One day, many years ago, we finished our transaction and the cashier said to me... "Thank you very much, Mrs. ...uh... Can-a-corn?"

Really? Can-a-corn?  Okay.  I'll take it.  For Halloween, however, I prefer Mrs. Candycorn!

Thanks to my Better Homes and Gardens Halloween special issue, I found the perfect Candycorn craft to whip up for our front porch!

 

This Candycorn family was so easy to make - all you need is some foam flower cones - found in the floral department of the Hobby Lobby, craft paint, and googly eyes.  Couldn't be more simple and best of all - it won't go bad or rot our teeth!
